Five sentenced prisoners from the Nitra remand prison and prison were given the opportunity to leave the institution on Sunday, October 18, 2026. As these were sentenced prisoners attending institutional religious services, the Sunday and the cathedral church were chosen intentionally.
Already during the trip to Nitra Castle, which is unique in its combination of secular and ecclesiastical architecture, they learned information about some of the churches they passed by. Beneath the castle walls, they were able to see the famous statue of Nitra's Corgoň, as well as the sculpture of Saints Cyril and Methodius with the nearby Marian column. The explanation was provided by the prison chaplain, who is a historian.
In the episcopal cathedral, everyone attended a solemn holy mass. Afterward, they visited the so-called Pribina Chapel, the Lower Church, the castle grounds, and the diocesan museum. There, they had the opportunity to see material and written monuments related to the first church and bishopric in Central and Eastern Europe. The tour concluded with an ascent to the cathedral tower and a view of the city.
The spiritual and cultural experience was complemented by refreshments in the city's pedestrian zone. With a clear mind and a fulfilled spirit, they returned together to the institution.
