On June 25, 2026, the jubilee 50th Annual Summer Games for Convicted Persons took place at the Correctional Facility for Juveniles in Sučany. The traditional sports and cultural event, which has been organized at the institution for five decades, has long enjoyed great popularity among the inmates. Interest in participating was high again this year. The games were intended for juvenile inmates, as well as adult male and female inmates, and were held in the spirit of fair play, mutual support, and meaningful use of leisure time.
The goal of the event is to promote the values of teamwork, discipline, responsibility, and perseverance. Athletic competitions, strength contests, fun activities, and team sports like football were complemented by a cultural and musical program prepared by the inmates themselves.
The jubilee year was supported by representatives of the General Directorate of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps, representatives of partner schools, as well as distinguished guests from the Office of the Commissioner for Children, led by Prof. MUDr. Jozef Mikloško, PhD., who expressed their support for activities aimed at the resocialization of juvenile inmates through their presence. Professor Mikloško and his team actively participated in the event's program, and the traditional exhibition football match with the juvenile inmates was also a highlight.
The Deputy Director of the institution for economic affairs, Lt. Col. Ing. Stanislav Kopčík, appreciated the sporting spirit of the inmates in his ceremonial speech and highlighted the importance of education as one of the most vital components of successful resocialization. The event also included a formal ceremony for the presentation of school reports. In the 2025/2026 school year, 28 students were evaluated, one of whom successfully completed their studies by obtaining a vocational certificate.
For fifty years, the Summer Games for Convicted Persons have proven that sports, education, and cultural activities have an irreplaceable place in the resocialization process. The jubilee 50th year confirmed once again that creating opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and building positive values helps inmates prepare for a successful return to society.
