From October 15 to 16, 2026, at the Medical and Rehabilitation Centre in Omšenie, as part of the implementation of the national project “Chance to Return 2”, an international expert seminar was held for educators, psychologists, and social workers working in exit units. The goal of the seminar was to present innovative tools, results achieved so far, and the practical application of the “Chance to Return 2” national project, focusing on reducing the risks of recidivism for sentenced prisoners and their successful integration into society after release from a prison sentence execution, as well as examples of good practice from abroad.
Foreign guests from the Jastrzębie-Zdrój prison outlined the prison sentence execution for prisoners in transition houses. This is a project that was implemented using Norwegian funds and its aim is to prepare sentenced prisoners for release.
In the next part of their presentation, they introduced the “PSORR–PL” tool, a tool for assessing the risk of recidivism as a starting point for creating support plans for sentenced prisoners in two main scales – static and dynamic. The tool was put into practice in 2024.
Guests from the Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts, and the Department of Forensic Psychology and Criminology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow introduced the participants to the DULUTH Program for dealing with domestic violence offenders and the ART program for dealing with aggressive sentenced prisoners.
The presentations delivered raised many questions from the participants, which smoothly transitioned into a wide-ranging discussion.
We consider maintaining international relations and exchanging experience a very important part of implementing the national project “Chance to Return 2”, as it allows us to exchange knowledge and experience from the process of dealing with sentenced prisoners and to compare the possibilities of individual prison services.
