From September 8 to 11, 2026, an international exchange internship for a delegation from the Hungarian partner prison Pálhalmai Országos Büntetés-végrehajtási Intézet took place at the Remand Prison and Correctional Facility in Nitra. The four-day program was filled with professional exchange of experience, learning about Slovak culture, and strengthening partnership relations.
The first day consisted of a comprehensive tour of the Nitra Remand Prison and Correctional Facility premises. Colleagues from Hungary were introduced to the facility's operations. The foreign colleagues were particularly interested in the electronic peepholes, which they appreciated as a modern and effective security solution. The demanding introductory day concluded in a relaxed atmosphere with a traditional sitting in a 'hajloch' (wine cellar) in Veľký Kýr, where the guests had the opportunity to taste local specialties.
Wednesday's program belonged to the capital city. The delegation first toured the Bratislava Remand Prison and Correctional Facility. This was followed by a cultural segment in the form of the capital's landmark - a tour of the historic Bratislava Castle. The whole day culminated in evening entertainment and strengthening of relations in the beautiful setting of the Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou Correctional Facility recreational facility.
Thursday was marked by a visit to the Nitra-Chrenová Correctional Facility, which is specific in its focus on serving sentences for convicted women. For the Hungarian delegation, this was a valuable opportunity to compare the conditions and methodology of treatment in a women's prison.
This September exchange internship once again confirmed that international cooperation and the sharing of best practices between the Slovak and Hungarian prison services are at an above-standard level and provide valuable insights for both parties.
