On September 24 and 25, 2026, representatives of the management of the Prison Sentence Execution Department of the Sučany Juvenile Correctional Facility, at the invitation of experts from the Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, participated in a professional conference. There, they presented the most significant changes in the Slovak prison system and explained how they are reflected in the daily work with convicts.
Space was also given to activities through which the institute operates beyond its walls. Officers focus on the prevention of drug, alcohol, and other addictive substance use among primary and secondary school students. Through discussions, they illustrate the consequences of addiction and encourage them to make responsible decisions.
Participation in the conference brought new professional contacts and opened up possibilities for further cooperation. For the institute's officers, such meetings are an opportunity to compare experiences, seek ideas for improving the conditions of sentence execution, and develop the approach to working with convicts.
The benefits of long-term international cooperation are also confirmed by contacts with experts from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, with whom the institute is collaborating on a project focused on the influence of evolutionary neuroaesthetics on the process of serving a prison sentence. Relationships established at a similar professional event nine years ago continue to this day and are gradually expanding into other areas related to the execution of sentences.
