In August 2026, Medjugorje became a place of spiritual pause, prayer, and renewal for 32 pilgrims from among the prison officers and employees of the Košice and Prešov Prisons, as well as the former prison in Levoča. Together with their families, they went on a pilgrimage to this well-known pilgrimage site in Bosnia and Herzegovina from August 18th to 24th, 2026.
The participants were spiritually accompanied by ThDr. Marek Pejo, parish priest of Lekárovce and pilgrimage guide, together with Capt. Rastislav Zapach and 1st Lt. ThLic. Radoslav Záhorský, spiritual guides and chaplains of the mentioned prisons.
For many, the pilgrimage was an opportunity to draw new spiritual strength, to pray for peace and blessings for their families, or healing for their loved ones. Each participant arrived with their own personal intention and expectation. In addition to group activities, the pilgrims also had space for personal reflection, prayer, and time spent in silence.
The program included hikes to Podbrdo – Apparition Hill and Križevac. At the same time, the participants visited the Kravice and Kočuša waterfalls, the village of Tihaljina, and the historic city of Mostar, where they had the opportunity to learn about local culture, monuments, and taste traditional specialties.
The pilgrimage was not only a spiritual experience but also an opportunity for rest, getting to know each other, and strengthening family and professional relationships.
May what the participants took away from Medjugorje not remain just a beautiful memory, but may peace, hope, and spiritual strength accompany them even after their return to their families, workplaces, and everyday life.
