The International Peace Marathon in Košice is among the most significant and oldest endurance events of its kind in Europe. Its long-standing tradition attracts thousands of professional and amateur runners from various countries around the world every year. This year, its 103rd edition took place, once again offering participants a demanding yet unforgettable sporting challenge.
The event was also attended by members of the Pre-trial Detention Center and the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps in Košice, who took part in the half-marathon and marathon competitive disciplines. In addition to individual disciplines, four members participated in a relay race, where individual team members gradually divided the entire marathon course among themselves. Through their joint efforts, they managed to achieve 95th place out of a total of 657 registered relay teams, which represents a valuable sporting result and at the same time proof of their determination, teamwork, and physical readiness. However, participation in the event was not just about athletic performance. Members of the Košice institute decided to support their participation symbolically as well. On this occasion, they had special team t-shirts made, through which they represented the Košice institute during the event. The uniform clothing also underscored the togetherness of the entire team.
The participation of members in the International Peace Marathon can be seen not only as a sporting activity but also as an example of an active approach to supporting a healthy lifestyle, physical fitness, and team spirit. Sport represents a significant means for developing endurance, discipline, self-confidence, and the ability to cooperate – qualities that are also justified in the performance of demanding service duties. The result of the Košice relay team thus remains not only recorded in the event's results list but above all represents a shared success of the four members who, through their participation, worthily represented their workplace and showed that sport and professional dedication can be a natural part of the active life of members of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps.
