Our colleague Rado Hyža, who loves traveling the world, mountains, and hiking. He works as a case manager for remand prisoners at the Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou prison.
On Saturday, October 24, he is leaving for Nepal, where he will complete a trek to the Mt. Everest Base Camp 5,364 m. If all goes well, he will reach his highest points at the summits of Chukung-Ri 5,546 m and Kala Patthar 5,545 m. He wants to return via the Cho-la pass 5,368 m and Gokyo. The entire trek will last 16 days.
In 2024, he walked 770 km of the SNP Trail across all of Slovakia, and this year he completed the entire High and Western Tatras via accessible peaks over 2,000 meters. During both treks, he organized a fundraiser for children with disabilities, and together they collected 14,750 euros.
Let us give Amálka wings that her muscles cannot.
Amálka Fridmanová is eight years old and comes from Svit. She was born with a rare joint disorder that does not allow muscles to move, causing them to atrophy. Furthermore, she has clubfeet, scoliosis, a non-functional left arm, and other conditions. She has already undergone a number of complex surgeries and rehabilitation sessions, and has completed many exercises. Despite her very difficult fate, she is a cheerful little girl who tries to live life to the fullest.
Rado is going to Nepal to fulfill his dream and stand beneath the highest mountain in the world. Amálka, however, must daily conquer a much steeper and more challenging Everest – her fate. He has decided that every step he takes in the Himalayas will be for her.
Amálka needs a new electric wheelchair – it will give her freedom and contact with her friends. Health insurance does not cover it, and the Labor Office covers only a small portion. Amálka is missing only 6,000 euros. Let’s turn wheels into freedom.
· The state does not cover everything: For eight-year-old Amálka, regular rehabilitation and special aids are crucial. However, these items cost thousands of euros per year and health insurance companies cover them only minimally or not at all. Without people's help, the family cannot afford it.
· Investment in her future: Amálka is at an age where the child's body is still developing, and proper therapies can result in huge progress. Every euro invested in her treatment now gives her a chance for a much more independent life in adulthood.
· We are in this together as a community: Hiking is about solidarity, helping on the trail, and overcoming obstacles. By contributing, we show that Amálka and her family are not on their difficult fight alone.
· Direct and transparent help: Every cent from the fundraiser goes directly to Amálka's family for a specific purpose – the new wheelchair. No administrative fees, just pure help. Everyone will see every transaction in the transparent account. Every euro helps.
