On September 23, 2026, a works contract was signed at the premises of the General Directorate of the Corps of Prison and Court Guard with the company OHLA ŽS, a. s., the subject of which is Construction of a new production hall at the Juvenile Prison in Sučany.
The construction period is set at 580 calendar days from the date of handing over the construction site, which is expected to take place on October 8, 2026.
The new production hall will be built on the site of the original building, which was removed at the end of 2025 due to its hazardous technical condition. The new structure will retain the original footprint and will be designed as a modern reinforced concrete structure clad with sandwich thermal insulation panels.
The facility will consist of functionally separate sections intended for woodworking, metalworking, and a paint shop with a sandblasting room, the production of which will be used primarily for the needs of the Corps or for the needs of other state entities, with revenue from the sale of products going to the state budget. Individual operations will be structurally, technically, and operationally separated, and each will have its own technical, storage, and social facilities. The building will be partially one-story and partially two-story. The project also includes the planned installation of photovoltaic panels on the building's roof.
Building a new production hall will also restore and create higher-quality conditions for the employment of inmates. Employing inmates represents a significant part of the treatment of prisoners, as it supports the creation and maintenance of work habits, the development of practical skills, meaningful use of time during their sentence, and, ultimately, their preparation for a return to society. The institution will thus gain not only new and more modern production spaces but also more suitable conditions for the development of the inmates' work activities as one of the important tools for their resocialization.
