The Iron Man competition at the Leopoldov prison once again tested endurance, strong will, and above all, physical strength. This activity offered inmates the opportunity to measure their physical abilities, overcome their limits, and at the same time use their free time meaningfully.
Participants competed in three weight categories – up to 85 kg, up to 100 kg, and over 100 kg. Every contestant faced a run with two 70 kg suitcases for a distance of 30 meters, 10 overhand pull-ups, 10 parallel bar dips, carrying a heavy tire for 25 meters, and lateral raises with weights.
Similar competitions have their significance in the conditions of serving a prison sentence. Physical activity benefits not only the body but also the mind. Furthermore, it can contribute to increasing discipline and self-confidence, and it creates space for inmates to set realistic goals and achieve them. The competition itself provides space for decent behavior towards other contestants and healthy rivalry.
