A ceremonial assembly on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Dubnica nad Váhom prison was held on Friday, October 9, 2026, in the room for cultural activities. The entire event was marked by recognition of the long-standing work of prison officers and employees, expressions of gratitude for their dedicated service, and a reminder of the important significance this institution holds within the Slovak prison system.
Fifty-five years is a piece of history. And at the same time, it is a commitment to the future. A commitment to continue the work that our predecessors began years ago, to protect the values upon which this facility stands, and to do our work with the same level of responsibility, professionalism, and humanity.
The ceremonial assembly was attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, Mgr. Michal Sedliak, and the Deputy Director General of the Corps of Prison and Court Guard for Economic Affairs, Col. Ing. Mgr. Juraj Ondrus. Among the invited guests were the directors of the neighboring prisons of Ilava and Trenčín, a representative of the partner prison Heřmanice from the Czech Republic, as well as officers of the Police Force and the Fire and Rescue Service. The event was also attended by representatives of the prosecutor's office and courts in Trenčín, as well as the mayor of Dubnica nad Váhom, Mgr. et Mgr. Peter Wolf.
The program included speeches, the extraordinary promotion of prison officers to higher ranks, and the presentation of awards to current and former officers of the prison as a token of appreciation for their work, dedication, and contribution to the development of the prison. A tour of the prison was also part of the program. A pleasant addition was a singing performance with piano accompaniment, which highlighted the festive character of this exceptional day.
On the occasion of the anniversary, a publication was created, the aim of which is to describe the activities and tasks of the prison, but also to provide insight into the development, gradual modernization, and changes that the prison has undergone over the past 55 years.
The celebrations of the 55th anniversary of the prison's founding were an opportunity not only to commemorate a significant jubilee but also to express respect to everyone who, through their daily work, participates in fulfilling the demanding tasks of the Corps of Prison and Court Guard.
