Convicts visited the zoo

On September 25, 2026 an authorized departure from the institution took place based on the permission of the Director of the Košice-Šaca Prison. Seven convicts from the exit department, accompanied by staff, visited the Košice Zoo together. This form of excursion provided an important stimulus to the participants, with the main intention being to support their successful reintegration into society.

The entire activity was carried out as part of the national project Chance for Return 2. This project conceptually and long-term focuses on individuals in the final phase of serving their prison sentence. Its priority mission is the smooth transition of convicts to civilian life, minimizing the risk of recidivism, and effective practice of social skills in the real world.

The visit to the Košice zoo served as a suitable form of adaptation to moving in an outdoor environment, maintaining social contacts, and restoring the normal perception of the surrounding world. For the convicts who will soon be released, these resocialization activities represent an important step on the path to independence and a strong motivation for a successful return home.
