On August 14, 2026, an expert lecture for convicts was held at the Correctional Institution for Juveniles in Sučany, with the main theme being probation and the work of a probation and mediation officer.
The lecture was led by PhDr. Alena Gulánová, PhD., an expert in probation activities within the national project Chance for Return 2, PhDr. Oliver Lakoštík, and Mgr. Andrea Beňová, MBA. The institution was also visited by JUDr. Bronislav Pongrác, Director of the Prison Department at the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic.
In the first part, the lecture was attended by male convicts currently assigned to the exit section. During the meeting, they learned more about the work of a probation and mediation officer, the possibilities of probation, and the situations they might encounter after their release. Following the introductory information, there was time for questions and discussion. The convicts were able to ask about specific situations and also take advantage of the opportunity for individual consultations with the experts.
In the second part of the meeting, the lecture was attended by female convicts assigned to the exit room. They also had the opportunity to learn about the work of a probation and mediation officer, obtain necessary information, and openly discuss issues related to their return to freedom.
The exit section and the exit room are part of the national project Chance for Return 2. Its goal, among other things, is to support convicts in preparing for life after serving their sentence and to help them manage the transition back into society.
