Education is one of the most significant tools for the resocialization of convicts. It provides not only the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, professional skills, and qualifications, but also strengthens self-confidence, work habits, responsibility, and the motivation to lead a proper life after release. Every successfully completed level of education represents an important step toward better labor market integration and reduces the risk of recidivism.
Also in this school year, convicts involved in educational programs achieved significant successes, which are the result of their perseverance, responsible approach, and close cooperation between pedagogical staff, professional workers, and members of the corps.
A significant milestone was the successful completion of three-year external studies at the Secondary Vocational School of Industrial Technologies in Košice – Šaca in the apprenticeship program Mechanic repairman – machines and equipment. Graduates acquired professional knowledge and practical skills in the field of repair, maintenance, and operation of machines and technical equipment. The qualification gained creates prerequisites for employment in industrial enterprises, service organizations, or production plants after returning to civilian life.
Another significant success was the completion of lower secondary vocational education at the Secondary Vocational School of Services and Industry of St. Josaphat in Trebišov. Obtaining this level of education represents an important foundation for many convicts for further vocational training and qualification enhancement. Graduates mastered basic professional knowledge, work habits, and competencies that significantly increase their opportunities for further professional development.
Successes were also recorded by students of the United Boarding School in Prakovce. In the apprenticeship program Construction production – painting and coating works they successfully handled another year of study and gained theoretical and practical skills necessary for continuing studies in the next grade. This is a profession for which there is long-term stable demand in the labor market, which can facilitate graduates' integration into the work process after release.
Equally successfully completed another year of study were the pupils of the Practical School of the United Boarding School in Prakovce. The educational program of the practical school is focused on the development of independence, work skills, social competencies, and preparation for daily life as well as employment appropriate to the individual capabilities of each student. During their studies, the students demonstrated responsibility, perseverance, and willingness to work on themselves, thereby confirming the importance of an individual approach to education.
Every obtained apprenticeship certificate or diploma represents much more than just a document of completed studies. It is a symbol of personal effort, discipline, and determination to change one's future. Successful graduates prove that even while serving a prison sentence, it is possible to develop one's skills, acquire new professional competencies, and prepare for a return to society.
Thanks go to all teachers, vocational training masters, professional staff, management of collaborating schools, and members of the Corps of Prison and Court Guard who, through their daily work, create conditions for the implementation of educational programs. Their professional approach, patience, and support significantly contribute to ensuring that education during the execution of a sentence fulfills its mission.
The successes of this year's graduates are proof that investing in the education of convicts has profound meaning. It represents an investment in the individual, in a safer society, and in creating real opportunities for a new start after the completion of the sentence.
