Education as an aid to resocialization

This year again, final examinations were held at the Leopoldov institution, marking the completion of three years of study at the Secondary Vocational School of Engineering in Hlohovec in the field of electromechanic – high-current technology, and the convicts thus obtained a secondary vocational education. Stage fright, nervousness, and anxiety were replaced by pride, self-confidence, and a sense of achievement after the effort exerted.

Supplementing education during imprisonment is not about filling time, but is also an opportunity for personal development for the convicts. Education helps them acquire new knowledge and skills that they can use after release. With a secondary education, they have a better chance of finding decent employment, and this is one of the factors that can help people after their release from prison to lead an orderly life and reduce the risk of returning to criminal activity. Studying and the duties associated with it also develop responsibility, discipline, and perseverance. Convicts can thus gain greater self-confidence and a sense of self-worth. Moreover, graduates serve as motivation for other convicts to engage in studies, and it is also a benefit to society when a person successfully integrates into normal life after serving their sentence.
