A lecture by the head of the St. John the Merciful House, from the Greek Catholic Charity of Prešov, took place on the premises of the correctional facility. The aim of the meeting was to introduce the convicts in the pre-release unit to the mission of charity, its activities, and the importance of providing help to people who have found themselves in an unfavorable life situation.
The speaker introduced the participants to the operation of the shelter, the scope of social services provided, and the daily work with clients. Through practical experience, he highlighted the life stories of homeless people, the causes of their unfavorable situation, as well as the possibilities for their support and reintegration into society. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of mutual aid, solidarity, respect, and personal responsibility in overcoming life's obstacles. We also learned about the significance of the clay ducat, a symbolic currency worth €1, and its importance as a dignified way to help homeless people.
The lecture provided the convicts with a valuable perspective on the issue of social exclusion while creating space for reflection on the value of human dignity, helping neighbors, and the importance of a second chance.
