The last weekend of July, two musical concerts were held at the Correctional Facility for Juveniles in Sučany. At the beginning of the day, a concert took place for male inmates from the minimum-security level and juvenile inmates, and in the afternoon, it was held for female inmates.
The cultural experience was provided by musically talented inmates from the minimum-security level, who prepared a diverse repertoire. Alongside their own original compositions, well-known Slovak, Czech, and international hits were played, which the musicians presented in their own original arrangements.
The pleasant atmosphere of the concerts, the positive reactions of the audience, and the active involvement of the performers contributed to creating a valuable cultural experience for all those present. The musical event also provided inmates with space for meaningful use of their free time, supported the development of their creative abilities, and positively influenced the atmosphere in the institution.
During the concert, it was evident that the female audience was significantly more active in singing. For some songs, they even completely replaced the singer for a moment and sang the songs together from the first to the last note. The atmosphere was full of emotions – there was no shortage of joy, smiles, or enthusiasm. However, the ballads also brought touching moments, as they reminded many attendees of their loved ones or strong memories from the past, causing tears of emotion to appear in the audience.
Organizing cultural and interest-based activities represents an integral part of the resocialization process, the goal of which is to motivate inmates toward personal development, strengthen their social competencies, and create conditions for successful integration into society after serving their prison sentence.
