This year again, ten sentenced prisoners from the Ružomberok prison expanded their work skills on the premises of the institution. As part of the “Skills for the Labour Market” project, they completed a professional course focused on metal active gas welding (steels without preheating) ZK 135-1.
The course was an opportunity to combine theoretical preparation with practical training. Under the guidance of a professional instructor from the training centre LESTOM, s. r. o. from Lučenec, the participants mastered basic welding procedures while also gaining knowledge about occupational safety. An important part of the education was primarily the practical preparation, which allowed them to test the knowledge they had acquired.
Over several days, the participants gradually gained more confidence in their work and developed their technical skills. The result of their efforts was the successful completion of the course and the acquisition of a welder's license and a certificate, which testify to the acquired professional competence.
Acquiring a new qualification can be a significant step for sentenced prisoners in their return to society. Work habits, professional knowledge, and useful skills can make it easier for them to find employment after their release and help them build a more stable life.
Educational activities of this type are therefore not just about obtaining a certificate. They also represent an opportunity to prepare for the period after the prison sentence execution, to take responsibility for their future, and to create better prerequisites for successful integration into society.
